Info, Menu, Exit... DESTROY!

Man threatened to blow up city with TV remote

Australian police declared a state of emergency after a drunken man threatened
to blow up half a city with his TV remote control.

I've been able to access a few bombs with my remote. Most recently Shoot 'Em Up, on On Demand. Terrible.

The Lives Of Others

Sprechen Sie Deutsches?

No matter, this incredible movie has subtitles. One of the better movies I've seen in a long time.

It takes place in 1980's East Berlin, which makes 2008 USA under the Patriot Act look like a post-it note from Bush. What?

Anyway, it's a movie about spying, secrets, history and love. It truly is amazing and I'll be adding this to my collection.

Grandma's Underwear

The New York Post recently printed a movie review of 'The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep'.

Film critic Kyle Smith wrote this synopsis about the movie:

"by trying to be charmingly old-fashioned, it overshoots the mark and winds up being as musty as grandma's lingerie drawer. The average 12-year-old will find it slow and predictable. "

As musty as grandma's lingerie drawer.
"DUDE... this movie moves like grandma's panties!"

How the hell would ANYONE know what grandma's lingerie drawer smells like?

And grandma's don't wear lingerie. By the time they're grandmas (excluding the Spears family), they're usually just wearing undergarments, or pieces of strategically placed cloth and string that prevents embarrassing Easter morning breakfasts.

And dude, it's a kid movie.

Punch Up Your Image

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) - A Serbian village is hoping to channel some of
Rocky Balboa's fighting spirit with a 10-foot-tall statue of the fictional boxer
portrayed by Sylvester Stallone.

Zitiste, a village about 35 miles north of Belgrade that has been beset
in recent years by flooding and landslides, unveiled the statue in the village
square late Saturday.

The monument, unveiled as part of a music festival, is made of bronze
and concrete. It was created by Croatian artist Boris Staparac.

Zitiste has repeatedly suffered flooding and landslides, gaining a
disaster-prone reputation. Fed up, the locals contemplated how to change that
image and revive the village - one of the poorest in northern Serbia - and came
up with the idea of a statue of the tenacious fictional fighter.
"Our idea
has really stirred the public," said local official Zoran Kasalovic. "Now, no
one in Serbia can say they don't know about Zitiste."

Stallone, 61, portrayed Balboa in six movies, starting with "Rocky" in 1976
Ok, a fake boxer might change your village's image. But what's with the chickens? Get rid of the chickens. Get some dobermans. Or a bear-holding-a-shark. That's deadly. That says, "Don't come here and try to steal my dirt, or I'll sick my bear-holding-a-shark on you!

I'm Not There - The Bob Dylan Movie

This movie, scheduled to be released in September, is one I am very curious about. I have no idea what to make of the description.I heard about it last year, whereas different actors would be portraying Bob Dylan at different stages in his life. One of those actors would be Cate Blanchett. Um, ok. I think I know where they're going with this.

But here some of the plot outline from IMDB.com:

Formerly going by the title of "I'm Not There: Suppositions on a Film
Concerning Dylan", this is a film about the life of Bob Dylan. The film follows
seven characters, each embodying a different aspect of Dylan's life story and
music.

The film is about the life of Bob Dylan's early days as a struggling
folksinger, the rise to the forefront of the early-'60s folk scene, the
controversial switch to rock, the motorcycle accident and the subsequent retreat
from public view, and the latter-day de-emphasis of recording and concentration
on the concert series known as the Never Ending Tour.

Each story expresses an aspect of Dylan's mercurial personality and each
story is to be filmed differently, in a style appropriate to its theme: Woody
(Franklin) - an 11-year-old black boy, always on the run; Robbie - a womanizing
performer, always on the road; Jude (Blanchett) - the young androgynous rock
star; John/Jack (Bale) - a folk idol who reinvents himself as an evangelist;
Billy (Gere) - the famous outlaw, miraculously alive but growing old.

And each actor is credited playing Bob Dylan, but as... another person? It seems it could be an original, suprising film that could work. Or it could fall flat.Until it comes out - here is a preview of Cate Blanchett... as Jude/Bob Dylan... and David Cross as Alan Ginsberg!

Red Dawn

Prison official: "I'm not sure we'll ever know who they were"

Damn right. You'll be lucky not to wake up with your throat slit!

Good to hear we're still planning some kind of top secret mission. Not so good to hear we're missing our targets and have rubber bullets.

Props to the prison guards though, trained to watch the sky.

That something they need to do in France.

Live Free Or Die Hard

I'M PSYCHED.

I had posted about how worried I was... with the comic sidekick... the PG-13 rating. But the reviews are coming in and they're great!

Ahhh... I knew it all along!
